                                       Mumbai (Thane) to Solapur - Trip worth remembering

Mumbai to Solapur usually takes 6 - 7 hours depending on the road conditions and traffic. Many people traveling towards Hyderabad or any of the adjoining areas travel through Solapur. Till few years ago the road was one of the most pathetic roads you could have driven your car on. But now June 2014 most part of the road is four lane and nicely tarred.

Road Condition - 4 lane post Kasurdi till Tembhurni and then 4 lane again post the small village diversion till Solapur

Water bottles is a must to have on this route. You will get ample easting options on the route as there are many hotels / dhabhas /  tapriwaalas





The route is extensively used by heavy vehicles i.e. trucks. Unless you are nearing a village there will be distant sight of cars zooming on this road. One can easily relax and drive on this route and if you wish the throttle can be seen nearing the red zone for all the drivers who like to rev but with caution :)

Toll on the route are nominal. The road condition is good after one crosses Pune vicinity (Kasurdi toll) Best way to cross is via Shivajinagar in Pune if you leave early. Else the other alternative is via Katraj

Solapur Station is near to the main highway, so finding it is not difficult at all.

There is nothing to do in Solapur. I had one of the memorable drives and stay in Solapur owing to the work i had there.

Note - The blog is more if information than anything else. If any one is going by car or bike this road is totally safe and drivable. The road is well lit on highways at night and there are flyovers at most of the crossings.
